Recreation and Enrichment

Kids at Boys and Girls Country are encouraged to participate in sports, performing arts, and enrichment programs through public school. Many activities and events are held year round at the Penny Loyd Student Life Center, where students can enjoy a variety of recreation options such as sports clinics, music lessons, art classes, and acting lessons.

The Penny Loyd Student Life Center, which houses the Education Lab, also houses a gymnasium, recreation center, weight room, art studio and props room, music room, and a swimming pool.  Boys and Girls Country holds an annual talent show, and our children perform skits at our Annual Spring Festival and sing at the Annual Heritage Awards Dinner.

Since its beginning, ranch life has been a part of the Boys and Girls Country tradition.  Located behind the Student Life Center is a working ranch of 216 acres with cattle. Kids can work with the cattle and are encouraged to participate in FFA through school. Boys and Girls Country also offers a Junior Master Gardener program that is aligned with the TEKS educational curriculum. In addition to tending to the garden and butterfly habitat, students can participate in a mobile milking parlor presentation, photography class and summer education program.

Our children also participate in vacation bible school, mission trips, and summer camps offered by their cottage churches. Many churches offer our kids partial or full scholarships to participate. Each cottage family takes a week-long summer vacation together to promote family bonding and give kids the opportunity to learn and travel.
